Software developer praydog has released VR mods for Resident Evil 2 and 3 on GitHub.

Free and Open Source Resident Evil Mods

The mods allow you to play the games in first-person VR, with lifelike weapon actions, such as physical damage from knives.

Features Resident Evil 2 and 3 VR Mods

This allows you to play both games in first-person view, giving you

  • Head-based movements,
  • And a full controller support.

Other features of Mods include the ability to:

  • Watch cinematic scenes in 3D without going through a virtual window
  • realistic weapon collisions, such as physical damage from knives and throwing grenades.

To play the mods, you will need to own the original copies of each of the games, as well as a device powerful enough to allow you to run the additional VR elements.

You can now download the v1.1 mod files on GitHub (Praydog provides them for free and open source.), which you’ll need to extract to run them on SteamVR.

Resident Evil in virtual reality

These aren’t the first games in the Resident Evil series that you can play in VR.

  • Resident Evil 4 has been adapted for the Oculus Quest 2 (or Meta Quest) at the end of last year.
  • Resident Evil 7 has been available exclusively on PlayStation VR for some time.
  • Praydog also suggests that they work on a full mod for Resident Evil 8, with motion control work in progress currently available on GitHub.
