What you will learn
Healthy living as an important concern for Germans
According to a recent survey, in which 2030 Germans over the age of 18 were asked, the subject of healthy living is important to 72 percent of the population. A full 77 percent see it as promising. In the course of the corona pandemic, healthy living has become even more important for 38 percent of those surveyed.
In their own health home, healthy living and sleeping conditions are particularly important to almost all of the respondents. It is also important to more than half of Germans that healthy living conditions are ensured in the children’s room, kitchen and bathroom. There is a particularly high level of interest in healthy indoor air, measures against mold formation and the removal of mold in living spaces. About half of Germans try to avoid electrosmog in the bedroom.
With a new building or a modernization, three quarters of Germans would pay attention to healthy and low-emission building. This also applies to 63 percent when buying or renting a residential property.
The fact that a smart health home can make a decisive contribution to satisfying the needs for healthy living in existing properties is rarely discussed. Often the Germans shy away from letting “modern technology” into the house due to excessive demands or too many questions. There is a lack of beginner-friendly information material on the topic not even on the net for a long time. And especially when it comes to the much-desired, good indoor air, smart technology is simply unbeatable.
Receive room air data conveniently and in real time
The temperature and air quality have a major impact on human wellbeing in living. There are now a wide variety of smart products that can be used to monitoring the climate and air quality both indoors and outdoors.
Certain modern weather stations are able to measure temperature, humidity, air pressure and air quality. However, this data is then not simply always updated and displayed on an easy-to-read display. Rather, the technology only becomes smart when the data is made available everywhere in and around the house with the help of an app on the smartphone or smartwatch. A question about the room temperature to a voice assistant is enough to even query it without having to move. With the help of push notifications, important changes to the measurement results are always made in real time.
Various smart health home systems, such as Magenta or Homee, also make it possible to access the weather station via an app and carry out certain actions. This can be done based on the measurement results. For example, the automatic start of the air conditioning or a fan can be activated as soon as a certain temperature is reached in a room.
Healthy indoor air thanks to smart devices
As already mentioned, various smart devices can be coupled with the weather stations in the smart health home in order to automatically adjust certain values. In addition to climate-regulating devices, air purifiers are to be mentioned in the first place. They remove allergens and pollutants from the room air and often also have a fan and radiant heater to ensure a pleasant temperature at any time of the year.
There are many models in the field of air purifiers that still have to be controlled on the device or via the remote controls supplied. However, if you really want to optimize healthy living, you can rely on providers who allow the device to be harmoniously integrated into the smart health home. The “Dyson Pure Cool TP 04”, for example, which we also recommend in our Review for the best air purifiers against dust, can be activated very easily via voice control and thus wonderfully integrated into the smart health home.
Weight under control with smart scales
If you want to be healthy, you have to exercise regularly and eat healthily. A smart health home cannot do these things for you, but smart technology can help ensure that you live healthy in a fit body.
The key word here is: networked body scales. These help not only to document the development of your own weight, but also to synchronize it with fitness apps.
As is not uncommon for modern scales, not only body weight is measured on high-quality devices that can be integrated into the WLAN. The body fat and water percentage, muscle and bone mass and even heart health (based on pulse wave speed and heart rate) can also be measured. Data can then be clearly prepared in a dedicated scale app and / or shared with Google Fit and Apple Health.
Sleep better thanks to tracking devices
Healthy sleep is also a very decisive factor when it comes to healthy living. Because if you sleep poorly, you sit down unnecessarily a whole range of possible, dangerous consequences out. Not necessary because there is also smart technology here that can easily support healthy sleep.
Sleep trackers help you to gain a better understanding of your own sleep behavior. On the one hand, they record the duration of sleep, but they are also able to record the quality of the individual sleep. And that is exactly what is crucial. Although it is recommended to sleep between 7 and 9 hours, the data collected by the smart tracker only provides information about how restful these hours of sleep really are.
Based on this data, advice is given in apps suitable for the trackers, which help to improve your own sleep behavior step by step. Some trackers are able to record vital functions such as breathing and heart rate themselves in order to recognize possible breathing disorders and take action against them.
Tracking devices are integrated into the smart health home by combining them with automation platforms such as “IFTTT”. As soon as you go to bed, the light is automatically switched off and the alarm switched on. Such functions make everyday life at health home easier not only, but also especially for older people who are no longer as agile and in need of security.
Do the household chores more regularly and easily
Finally, in line with the topic of comfort, the topic of “household” in general must of course also be mentioned. Household work or everyday things that (have to) be done every day at health home are also closely related to healthy living.
Just think of the dust that accumulates in the health home every day. Most of the time, dust also contains organic matter such as food crumbs, plant particles or flakes of skin. Mites and other miniature creatures such as bacteria and mold feel very comfortable here. If they are not suckled regularly, these creatures multiply quickly and cause allergic reactions or even impairment of lung function, for example.
Here, too, older people should be named as a risk group who are not always able to clean their health home frequently. Vacuum and floor mopping robots take care of this cleaning and even make it possible not to have to spend the sometimes tight pension on expensive cleaning staff.
Smart walkers, which use so-called distance sensors for posture detection to make posture healthier and to prevent falls in the house, are also part of a modern and health-promoting smart health home. This example alone shows how far the topic goes and how many devices contribute to health in your own four walls today.
