The drone market is becoming more and more general public, which leads to a diversification of the products available. While a majority of drones operate on the principle of helicopters, the Parrot Disco was designed as an airplane and offers a very different flight experience. The Parrot Disco now sold for less than 900 euros
Launched at a price of 1,299 euros, a price considered quite high by many people, the Parrot Disco intelligent flying wing is now available at a price of 899 euros, about 30% less than its launch price. With this new price, Parrot hopes to convince new users to adopt the aircraft drone associated with a virtual reality headset to experience the flight of the flying wing in immersion.
The Parrot Disco is designed for immersion
One of the great innovations brought by the Parrot Disco is the fact of be able to immerse yourself in piloting thanks to FPV (First Person View) technology which places you virtually in the cockpit of the aircraft. A feature that model aircraft enthusiasts will certainly not deny. It is thus possible to experience, in the first person the sensations of flight thanks to a virtual reality headset. Your gaze will be the same as if you were in the cockpit.
You will have access to the skyline but also to all on-board telemetry information in real time. No worries, however, takeoff and landing, delicate and risky moments, are fully taken care of automatically. No risk of stalling either, the stability of the intelligent flying wing being guaranteed. Steering errors are also automatically caught by the on-board electronics. A system so secure that even children can safely pilot the Parrot Disco.
Parrot Disco: a drone for the pleasure of flying and for taking pictures
The Parrot Disco aircraft drone is ideal for model aircraft enthusiasts who like to experience the joys of flight. Its performance and characteristics provide a sensational flight experience. The possibility of a first-person view radically changes traditional model aircraft. The Parrot Disco really allows you to experience the flight as if you were on board.
But the other major advantage of the drone lies in its ability to take photos and videos of your flights. Vou can easily take pictures with an impressive aerial point of view or even film your exploits and then watch from the comfort of your health home the flight you have made.
Parrot Disco aircraft drone Review
We have tested the Parrot Disco drone for you. From smart flying wing unboxing to our flight impressions, we deliver a full aircraft Review. We will discuss the handling of the drone, its design and ergonomics, our feelings about piloting, the application as well as a comparison with products from the competition. Finally, we will give you our conclusions on the intelligent flying wing of Parrot.
Unboxing of Parrot Disco
The drone is delivered in a classic cardboard box for this type of product. The polystyrene storage is molded so that each piece finds its place easily. A guarantee not to find your broken drone when unpacking it, and you should be able to store it easily without having to put it all in the box.
On the box you can see a lot of information like the quality of its camera, its maximum speed, the duration of its battery or even the accessories which are supplied with the drone: the controller and an FPV helmet for immersion flights. But it also offers you an express user manual, although we recommend that you use the manual before attempting your first flight.
On the sides of the box, more precise details are given, such as the weight and size of the animal, its memory (to record photos and videos) or the technical specifications of the helmet and the controller. Last thing to note, the box offers a handle. Convenient to transport your drone easily.
Design and ergonomics of the Parrot Disco
The Disco offers an original design for a drone. Indeed, as said before, it is not a device with four propellers (quadcopter) but a flying wing. So he hasa much richer look than the majority of drones.
He is wearing a most classic black and white color scheme, nothing very interesting on that side. It is not particularly beautiful, but is far from being ugly. However, it is larger than you might think, with its 115 centimeters wide.
Like all drones, it should be used in a very open environment, on pain of knocking on all corners without even taking off. However, once in the air, it is easy to handle. The steering assistance of the joystick is very effective: to crash the device, you have to want it.
The Parrot Disco is mainly made of a material similar to polystyrene, which makes it extremely light, but somewhat detracts from its appearance when looked at closely, as it then takes on a much cheaper appearance.
Its head, which contains all the electronic components, is made of plastic. Just like the servomotors that activate the ailerons so that the drone takes the wind, in the same way as an airplane.
Application of Parrot Disco
The application is very functional and allow you to easily find yourself in control of your drone. The combination of the manual, the controller, and the app covers any questions or uncertainties you may have.
The first start-up takes a little time, but honestly much less than you might think. Just follow the steps described in the manual and you should be flying in about twenty minutes.
Once in the air, the application allows you to see what the drone sees thanks to its full HD camera and take photos and videos of your flights. Apart from flights, it allows you to access the history of all your flights. This allows you to see flight time, battery consumption, photos taken, and even the number of crashes.
Using the Parrot Disco
The Parrot Disco is extremely easy to use. He fits into this range of quality products that try to make themselves as accessible as possible to the general public. In terms of handling, the challenge is here met with flying colors. Once you've set up your smartphone on the controller and smart health connected the app with the drone, you literally just have to start and launch it and it will go off on its own.
Once in flight, the aircraft will gain altitude and begin to circle in the sky. Only from this moment, you will be able to fly it, which avoids the stress of a failed take-off for a beginner.
Piloting the drone in flight is also very easy, the joysticks on the joystick offer simple and effective controls. In fact, unlike a quadcopter, the drone flies straight and cannot hover. To make it less stressful for beginners, you can make Parrot Disco make circles by turning the left joystick to the left or right. So, no need to be afraid to let him run away towards a singing tomorrow, if you feel overwhelmed, you only have to issue this command so that it stops and goes in circles.
Likewise, if you’re in mid-flight and for some reason you lose control or cannot fly the aircraft, you can directly press the landing key. Again, the drone will circle, then drop in altitude before landing. Beware however of what is below it when you press the button. Better to land it normally if there is no emergency.
The Parrot is equipped with a button that allows you to remind it directly to you if you don't want to fly it to its starting point. This function is automatically activated if the drone runs out of battery or if it leaves the range of the controller.
One of the most interesting functions is using the FPV helmet to immerse yourself in the flight experience. Just activate the dedicated function on the app and then put your smartphone in the headset. The result is very addictive, it really feels like flying. It is also advisable to sit down before using this feature so as not to fall to the ground in the event of a sharp turn of your device.
For more experienced pilots, the most interesting will be the capabilities of the drone, which can reach 80 km / h and fly for 45 minutes. The sensations are excellent and the piloting of an airplane is much more satisfying than that of a quadcopter.. We get caught up in the game quickly by trying to make maneuvers or by pushing the drone to the maximum of its capacities. Even a beginner can quickly take the ace of aces thanks to efficient assisted steering without being intrusive.
The Parrot Disco facing the competition
On paper, the Parrot Disco has it all : original, light, solid, both easy to access and capable of providing very good flying sensations. But there is one but: its price. It will cost you, in effect, € 1,300. So it's not a mini drone, like the Airborne Cargo, to amuse children and play with the dog. It is rather made for people really looking to live a piloting experience while being an amateur.
Its price greatly exceeds that of other wings on the market mainly, because it can go much faster and last much longer. We must not forget the integrated FPV helmet, as well as all the features such as assisted flight, the ability to return to the starting point, the HD camera.
We found its price reasonable compared to what it offers. However, it will mostly depend on how you want to use it. For ehealth, a quadcopter like the Bebob 2 will surely be more suitable, because it is more controllable. But if you like speed and driving, you can't go wrong.
- Very accessible
- Original look and steering
- Very immersive FPV
- Very good flying sensations
- Good camera
- Not as versatile as a quadcopter
(Review) Parrot Disco: become ace of the sky with this airplane drone
Reviewed by Pierrick LABBE
Design and ergonomics : The design is very simplistic but works. The drone is very easy to fly in the air but beware of its size when you handle it.
Features : Photo, ehealth, FPV, hovering, emergency landing, high speed … there are many and satisfactory!
Application : The application works very well, but it is clearly not the strong point of the product.
Use / Getting started : The big plus of the Parrot Disco, any novice can feel pilot in a few minutes of flight.
Value for money : The price is high, but it makes sense when you see the features of the drones. Be careful what you want to do with it. This drone is rather made to pilot than to film, although it can do it without problem.
